What’s all this, then?
Oh, hi. It looks like you’ve wandered through the gate. Welcome! I’m the Durchwanderer; here is where I keep my musings and thoughts and questions about some of the things I’ve noticed during my own wanderings. Come in, have a look around, stay awhile.
It’s a bit of a mess, and it’s pretty new, but I’m interested to see what pops up around here. As for what you can expect, I’m not making any promises, but a few of the things I’m interested in include languages, contemporary geopolitics, world history, some selected pop culture artifacts, physics, mathematics, art, how we know things, ideologies and social movements, religion, how we learn things, and free expression. There will be personal reflections on the human condition and some meandering speculation on what it means to be alive in a world that we made, rather than in the world that made us.
So just who are you?
Just some random guy, really. I’m currently in the middle of Europe, but I didn’t start out here, and I took quite a few winding paths through some interesting experiences along the way. I don’t claim to have any answers, but I have a lot of questions, a few aspirations, and a couple of concerns.
I speak a few languages and know a little bit about a lot of things, and I’m always looking for more and more to know less and less about. I also have an inveterate need to write, and I figured I’d throw some of my non-fiction up in one easy-to-find archive.
So why not just start a LiveJournal?
I’m not really sure, except I’m *pretty* sure it isn’t 2007 anymore. Which, I mean, thank *fuck*; I imagine there’s a Universe where Bush is stuck as President of the United States and Obama is always just on the cusp of getting elected, and I find it difficult to imagine a more exquisite vision of Hell.
What’s your endgame, here?
I’m not too sure about that, either. I’ve never been one for joining groups or leading movements. I’m certainly not under any delusions that I will collect a following I can turn into a living, or affect “the conversation” in a major way. But that also gives me an enormous amount of latitude about the many, many topics and ideas I wish to explore and discuss.
